Proven Success: 90%
75% higher test scores
St. Michael Prep has a proven track record of significantly improving student success on the SAT, ACT, and other standardized tests. Begun in 2015, the company utilizes scientifically-validated and time-tested methods to maximize the scores achieved by its clients. These methods have the additional benefit of helping students achieve better results in high school and college by inculcating improved study habits, time management skills, reading comprehension, and development of critical thinking.
Every student learns differently. Big test-prep companies must adopt a "one size fits all" approach to mastery of the material, but that ultimately frustrates many students who do not learn that way. Our approach emphasizes the Mark Hopkins model of successful teaching: "[the teacher] on one end of a log and a student on the other." Each class session is a one-on-one, face to face interaction with an expert teacher who has had many years of experience helping students with diverse learning styles. The teacher's primary duty is to form a mentoring bond with each student, thus facilitating the learning process by getting to know him or her as an individual.
Approaches to Learning
Not all students learn the same way. Some are visual learners, some do well with spatial relationships, some have shorter attention spans, and others. We have resources on hand to work with all types of learners, and our extensive library of practice material, tips & tricks, and "learning how to learn" videos provides support for our students between class sessions.
We've been tutoring students around the nation and around the world for many years in preparation for their college entrance exams. Our students generally score 30% - 50% higher (or more!) after working with us and learning our proven techniques. Our approach to learning is based on solid scientific and psychological data on principles of effective study, memory creation, and retrieval. Our students have been accepted at most of their target schools: Duke, UNC, UGA, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Clemson, Yale, Johns Hopkins, Michigan, NC State, Williams College, and many more elite schools across the country. Our success rate with students has been so great that our business now is primarily by referral -- our students do well, and they and their parents refer us to their friends.

This test prep program was perfect for me (even though I didn't want to do it at first). The methods were extremely helpful and I got into my first choice -- Yale!
Jim did a great job tutoring both me and my twin brother. He was easy to get along with and actually made tutoring enjoyable. We both raised our ACT scores by 7 points, and our work with Jim on our college applications helped us to both get into Duke. I highly recommend him.

I thought I couldn't do any better after taking the SAT once on my own . . . but I was wrong! After just about 2 months of tutoring, my score went up 225 points! Highly recommended!

This experience was a great beginning to my college career. It taught me how to take notes more effectively, to organize my time, and to read critically. I needed all these skills for the exam, but now they're working for me in college as well.
