FAQ

We'll examine your situation and any special requests or needs you might have, and we'll match you with a tutor who will be the best fit for you.  Don't worry, we're flexible -- if you don't hit it off with a tutor, we'll be glad to find someone with whom you do work well!

How do I get a tutor?

Using our online face-to-face platform means that you can have the best tutor no matter where you live.  After you contact us for an initial consultation, we'll send you a packet of materials to help you get started.  All you need is a computer with a webcam and an internet connection, and we're virtually working in the same room!

How does St. Michael Prep work?

We specialize in PSAT, ACT, and SAT test prep, but we also do test prep support for the SSAT/ISEE and for most of the SAT subject tests (SAT II).  In addition, we can work with students in grades 8-12 on academic subjects, college students in certain subjects (psychology, English, basic math), and on study skills, critical reading, grammar and writing, and on college applications (essays, best practices, etc.).  If you don't see your needs listed, feel free to ask us directly!

What can I get help with?
What's the minimum time to work with a tutor?

While there's no hard and fast minimum, we do recommend at least ten hours of classroom time to prep for one of the college entrance exams.  It takes at least that long to understand the way the questions are asked and how to approach each section.

One of the benefits of the online platform we use (Zoom) is that we can record our sessions and then send you a link to the recording.  This allows students to go over the session a second or third time if they need to.  We find this especially helpful with SAT and ACT math, where some of the concepts (and the methods we teach to solve problems) take practice and review to perfect.

Can I review my previous sessions?

Absolutely!  As a matter of fact, most students enjoy their experience preparing for an exam so much they request the same tutor again and again -- and even pass on the tutor's name to their friends!
